Exercise May Benefit Kidney Disease Patients - Can kidney disease get better?

Exercise May Benefit Kidney Disease Patients

Staying active can be hard, especially when
chronic disease gets in the way. But two new
studies suggest that chronic kidney disease
patients should make time for exercise. I'm
Erin White with your latest health news.
The studies found that exercise programs may
improve physical performance and weight in
chronic kidney disease patients. The kidneys
are responsible for filtering extra fluids
and wastes from the blood. In chronic kidney
disease, damage to the organs develops and
slowly worsens over time. This limits the
kidneys' ability to function.
Speak with a doctor about safe and effective
exercise for you.

Can kidney disease get better?

>> Can kidney disease get better?
>> The kidney damage that occurs in
chronic kidney disease is usually permanent
and tends to get worse over time.
Diabetes and high blood pressure, which are
the major causes of chronic kidney disease,
cause scarring in the kidney over time,
and as you know, scarring doesn't go away.
As a result, the kidneys don't improve.
What we aim to do with treatment is
to try to prevent further damage.
The GFR test, the blood test which measures how
well your kidneys are filtering will not get
better because the kidneys don't get better.
What we aim to do is to keep
it from getting worse.
