What Is Chronic Kidney Disease: Approach 1
>> A doctor speaks with a patient in his office.
>> What is CKD?
>> CKD means chronic kidney disease.
Chronic kidney disease means
that the kidneys are damaged.
The most common causes of chronic kidney
disease are diabetes and high blood pressure.
People who have diabetes and high blood
pressure have chronic kidney disease
because the small blood vessels in
the kidney are damaged in such a way
that the kidney can no longer
filter as well as it should.
The damage tends to occur very slowly
and most people have no symptoms.
They don't feel any way until the
kidney damage is very advanced.
If the kidney damage progresses over time, the
kidneys could be unable to maintain the health
of the individual with kidney disease.

Relationship between gout and kidney disease strong
Relationship between gout and kidney disease

Chronic kidney disease is associated with
gout. Many uric acid lowering drugs used to
treat gout require lower doses in patients
with poorly functioning kidneys and they may
have toxic effects on the kidneys. Based on
the National Health and Nutrition Examination
Surveys between 1988 and 1994 and published
in Seminars in Arthritis and Rheumatism, investigators
came to two conclusions. There is an increased
incidence of gout in patients with chronic
kidney disease and protein in the urine suggests
a higher prevalence of gout.
Comment: Not really new news to those of us
who see these
kinds
of patients.
